Alice (Mitchell) Doggan

Alice Doggan, 67, Mt. Vernon, died 9:34 a.m. Dec. 24, 2004, at St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital.

Mrs. Doggan was retired. She had worked as a cook for Mt. Vernon City Schools District 80.

She was born Nov. 13, 1937, in Watson, Ark., a daughter of Oscar and Mishanna (Walker) Mitchell.

She married J.L. Doggan Feb. 13, 1960; he survives.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at Shiloh Baptist Church, with the Rev. Lawrence James and Apostle Tim Brinsom officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Jackson Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon and after 11 a.m. Wednesday at Shiloh Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband, survivors include her children, Melvin (Julie) Doggan, Carolyn Sue Doggan, James Doggan, Ben (Lisa) Doggan, Don (Tiffany) Doggan, Cynthia (Michael) Doggan, Sidney (Josette) Doggan, Kevin (LaToya) Doggan and Brian (Tinneka) Doggan, all of Mt. Vernon; 28 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; twin sister Alma Harris of Mt. Vernon and sisters Erma Jean (Henry) Carruthers of St. Louis and Mishanna (Milton) Alexander of Dumas, Ark.; and brothers Oscar (Florence) Mitchell of St. Louis and Will Mitchell of St. Louis.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and two grandchildren.

Mrs. Doggan was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church. She was on the usher board and was a former church custodian. She had lived in Mt. Vernon since 1956.

Memorials may be made to the Shiloh Baptist Church Building Fund or the Diabates Foundation and will be accepted at the funeral home or may be mailed to Jackson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 912, Mt. Vernon, IL 62864. Services are under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, where you may call 242-8688 for more information.
