Helen Marie Dobbs Of Bluford Died At Age 59

Helen Marie Dobbs, 59, Bluford, died at 9:45 p.m. Nov. 3, 1987, at Crossroads Community Hospital.

Mrs. Dobbs was born Oct. 28, 1928, in Illinois, a daughter of Matthew and Iva (Wells) Merriman.

On June 21, 1945, in Edwardsville, she married William H. Dobbs, who survives.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Johnston Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with the Rev. Loy Shaw officiating. Burial will follow in South Hickory Hill Cemetery.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. Friday at Johnston Funeral Home.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by four sons, Larry Matthew Dobbs, Michael Clarence Dobbs, Robert O. Dobbs and Thomas J. Dobbs, all of Mt. Vernon; two daughters, Mrs. Velva Jean Conklin of La Belle, Fla., and Mrs. Paulette Lynn Patterson of Lawton, Okla.; 11 grandchildren; two brothers, Wayne Merriman of Branson, Mo., and Lester Merriman of Peoria; and six sisters, Mrs. Vanita Allen of Bonnie, Mrs. Josephine Boger of Salem, Mrs. Grace Rozelle of Florida, Mrs. Alene Williams of Ina, Mrs. Mary Shelton of Lakeland, Fla., and Mrs. Maxine Glesson of O’Fallon, Mo.

Mrs. Dobbs was a counselor at Comprehensive Services in Mt. Vernon. She was a member of Bluford Church of God.

Mrs. Dobbs was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, one brother and one sister.
