Claire M. Dixon

Claire Dixon Of Mt. Vernon Died At Age 82

Dr. Claire M. Dixon, 82, 1822 Richview Road, died 2 a.m. Sept. 7, 1989, at Jeffersonian Nursing Home.

Dr. Dixon was a medical doctor for 44 years until retirement in 1977.

He was born March 14, 1907, in Sims, a son of Dr. James E. and Mattie (Blanchard) Dixon.

Sept. 8, 1934, in East St. Louis, he married Lucille A. (Monty) Montane.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Park Avenue Baptist Church with the Revs. Wayne Carter and Everett Lemay officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.

Friends may call after 5 p.m. Friday at Hughey Funeral Home and after 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the church.

In addition to his wife, Dr. Dixon is survived by two daughters, Monty L. Dixon of Belleville and Mrs. Charlotte Sbalchiero of Belleville; two brothers, Blanchard Dixon and wife, Margaret, of Bayfield, Colo., and Glenn Dixon and wife, Ema, of Arlington, Texas; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Alfhild (Matty) Dixon of Fairfield; and two granddaughters, Jane Sbalchiero and Sally Sbalchiero.

Dr. Dixon was a member of Park Avenue Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, taught Sunday School and sang in the choir for many years. He was a member of Jefferson-Hamilton Counties Medical Society and the American Medical Society. He graduated from Fairfield High School and the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago. Dr. Dixon was a World War II Army Air Corp veteran.

Dr. Dixon was preceded in death by his parents; one brother Russell Dixon; and one sister, Jewell Dixon.
