Charles Clark Crouch, Jr

Charles Clark Crouch, Jr., 82, of Mt. Vernon died at 1:35 p.m. Thursday, March 29, 2007, at his home in Mt. Vernon.

He was born Nov. 15, 1924, in Belle Rive, a son of Charles Clark and Susan Blanche (Orrick) Crouch Sr.

He married Helen L. Smeathers on April 19, 1950, in Mt. Vernon, and she preceded him in death on Jan. 24, 1994.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at New Hope Cemetery, located south of Belle Rive.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.

Mr. Crouch owned and operated an underground telephone cable installation company. He also fought in the Solomon Islands and the South Philippines in the Asiatic Pacific Theater with the U.S. Army during World War II.

Mr. Crouch is survived by three sons, Thomas C. Crouch and wife Susan of Bluford, Charles N. Crouch and wife Quit of Springhill, Fla., and James H. Crouch and wife Jean of Sycamore; two brothers, Tom Crouch and wife Mary of Dekalb and Bill Crouch of Sycamore; three sisters, Elnore Gregory of Bluford, Mary Border of South Carolina and Ruth Ann Delaney of Mt. Vernon; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nephews and nieces.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and brothers and sisters.
