Leroy E. Crider

Leroy E. Crider, 81, Mt. Vernon, passed away at 1:38 p.m. on June 21, 2007, at St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.

He was born on Feb. 27, 1926, in Mt. Vernon, the son of Roy Earl and Marie (Draper) Crider.

He married Wanda Hayes on April 12, 1951, in Mt. Vernon and she survives.

He was retired as an employee of the State of Illinois. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Johnston Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with the Rev. Garlin Burris officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.

Leroy is survived by his wife Wanda (Hayes) Crider; daughter Wanda Lee Sands and husband Clifford of Kankakee; six grandchildren, Carrie Denison and husband Randy, Michael Joslin, Michelle Cantway and husband Kevin, Clifford (C.J.) Sands II, Thomas (Tommy) Sands, Kevin Phillips and wife Crissy; five great grandchildren, Randy Denison II, Kirsten Kiki Joslin, Derek Clifton Wayne Phillips, Caleb Dean Phillips, Austin Lee Phillips; one niece Janet Sue Rudy Spaulding; and a brother-in-law, Wendell Hayes of Spencer, Ind. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Norma Ruth Bethel Terrill.

For those who wish, memorials may be made to Southside Baptist Church and will be accepted at Johnston Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
