O.V. (Turner) Cox

O.V. Cox, 86, of Mt. Vernon died 12:15 a.m. Sept. 27, 2004, at Mt. Vernon Countryside Manor.

She was owner/operator of O.V. Cox Beauty Shop for 24 years.

Mrs. Cox was born Oct. 4, 1917, in Murphysboro to John and Elizabeth (Young) Turner.

She married Howard T. Cox June 17, 1939, in Paducah, Ky.; he died July 10, 1998.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. The Rev. Everett Lemay will officiate. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park in Murphysboro. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.

Mrs. Cox is survived by sons Tom Cox and wife Lynn of Mt. Vernon and Don Cox and wife Janice of Chesterfield, Mo.; a daughter, Betty Tarkenton and husband Scott of Raleigh, N.C.; grandchildren Chase Tarkenton of Charleston, S.C., Whitney Tarkenton of Charlotte, N.C., Leslie Cox of St. Charles, Mo., Tracy Mays and husband Jerry of Chesterfield, Mo., Dr. Tim Cox and wife Karen of Charlotte, N.C., Ryan Cox and wife Stacey of O’Fallon, Mo., and Allison Cecil and husband Troy of O’Fallon, Mo.; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Lila Boudet and husband Navarre of Belleville; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a sister, Marie Cook.

Mrs. Cox was a member of Logan Street Baptist Church.
