Donald L. Cook

Donald L. Cook went home to be with the Lord on Nov. 4, 2007.

He was born on March 5, 1934, in Ina, to Ray Cook and Rose (Green) on the family farm in Jefferson County, the area which he called home for his entire life.

He married Barbara A. (Jones) on Dec. 6, 1957.

Donald was father to James, Catherine Prest, Byford (Abbi), Mark (Jodi), Patricia (Brad) Pace, and Sandra (Brad) Jones.

He was grandfather to Pamela, Matthew, Michael, Timothy, Andrew, Bryan, Randy, John, Hannah, Olivia, and Elias.

Donald was brother to the late Byford Cook, Ruby Clinton, the late Russell Cook, and Roberta McKinney.

His parents preceded him in death.

Donald was a member of East Side Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon and faithfully served his congregation as Sunday School superintendent, teacher, song leader and trustee for 43 years.

He served our country from 1953 to 1963 as master crew chief/flight line controller on B-47 bombers in the United States Air Force Strategic Air Command. He was a recipient of the Air Force Commendation Medal for outstanding service.

Donald's hobbies included bible study, gardening, genealogy and his family, especially the grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Wednesday at the Johnston Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with the Rev. Michael Speidel and Rev. Todd Hawk officiating. Burial will follow at Kirk Cemetery in Ina. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. tonight at the Johnston Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
