Myra (Ellis) Collins

FORMER RESIDENT DIED IN ARTHUR; FUNERAL SATURDAY

Mrs Fred Strattan was notified of the death of her Aunt, Mrs. Myra Collins, formerly Myra Ellis, at Arthur Ill. Mrs. Collins husband died our or five years ago.

Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 at Arthur, and burial will be in the Arthur Cemetery.

Mrs Collins lived many years in Mt. Vernon having been born here, but has been a resident of arthur for almost forty years. She was well know to many middle aged and older residents and had many friends in Mt. Vernon and Vacinity. Two children survive her.

If weather conditions permit Mr. and Mrs Strattan and perhaps others from here will attend the funeral.


MRS. MYRA COLLINS'FUNERAL HELD SUNDAY

Funeral services for Mrs Myra Collins, wife of the late Asa O. Collins, who died Friday, March 23, after a lingering Illness was held Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs Roy H. Reeves.

Rev. F. E. Neumeyer, pastor of the First Methodist Church, of which Mrs. Collins was a member, conducted the services, and his message to the bereaved family and friends carried sympathy and understanding in their hour of trial.

Rev Neumeyer read a favorite song of Mrs. Collins'," My Faith Looks Up To Thee," and Mrs. H.M. Rigney, sang another favorite song,"O, Love That Will Not Let Me Go."

The flowers from loved one's and friends were many and beautiful and were in charge of friends of the family.

The Pall bearers were George Bradford, W.P. Chandler, G.H. Stock, Wm. Regenold, E.S. Drake and H.P. Rigley. Interment was at Arthur Cemetery. Mrs. Collins was one of the older residents of Arthur, having lived here for nearly forty years. Her going has saddened many a heart in the community, but her long and faithful loving service to her friends and family will be a sweet and lingering memory.

Mrs Collins was one of the few Gold Star Mothers in Arthur; one of those who had a son who gave his life in the Great World War, for Charles, her only son, died in the service of his country at the age of twenty-two.

Friends and relatives from out of town who attended the funeral were; Mr, and Mrs. C.B. Conyer and family, Richland Mich: MR. and MRS. FRED STRATTAN, MR. and MRS W.C. ELLISON MT. VERNON. ILL.; Mrs J.T. McMeen and daughter Cornelia Ann Chicago; C.M.E.Reeves St. Louis, Mrs. J.W. Dobson and daughters Miss Mary Dobson, Mrs C.E.Easley, Mrs Louis Brown Moweaqua; Mrs. Fred Watkins, Findlay; Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Wright, Sullivan; Mr. and Mrs Will Cambridge, Decatur.


Myra K. Ellis, daughter of Rev and Mrs. John T. Ellis, was born in Mt. Vernon Ill., Nov, 10, 1869, and passed away at the home of her daughter, in Arthur Illinois, March 23,1934.

She married Asa O. Collins of Mt. Vernon, on July 3, 1886, and moved to Arthur, in 1895, where she remained for the remainder of her life. To this union were born Leta M., Hallean M. and Charles O. Charles enlised in the United States Army during the World War, and passed away January 23, 1919, a few hours after being brought home from a government hospital in South Carolina.

Her devoted husband preceded her to the great beyound, May 23, 1926 and these two broken links in the family chain were the only sad events that came to mar her happiness .

In early life she gave her heart to God, and through her life she was a devout Christian and a devoted worker for the cause of Christ. She was a member of the First Methodist Church of Arthur and Her devotion was Life-long to her church and her Savior

She was a Charter Member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Arthur and one of Arthurs Gold Star Mothers.
