Evalee E. (Martin) Clark

Evalee E. Clark of Opdyke parted this world on July 21, 2005.

She was born March 4, 1912, the eldest child of Claude and Irene (Prince) Martin in Hamilton County.

On June 23, 1928, she married Charles A. Clark in Hamilton County. They were married for 74 years and four months. He preceded her in death Oct. 26, 2002.

Mrs. Clark started her first job at the age of nine. She worked in various restaurants, hospitals and factories over the course of her life until she retired in 1972. She was a hard-working woman even in retirement.

She was an avid gardener. She enjoyed quilting and traveling. She was an excellent cook; her specialty was her pies. When she did relax, she could be found sitting on her porch swing. she will be greatly missed by all who loved her.

Mrs. Clark is survived by six children, Maxine Brake of McLeansboro, Richard Clark and wife Joyce of Mt. Vernon, Nadine Tucker and husband Gene of Benton, Earnest Clark and wife Shirley of Essex, Mo., Alma Lowery and husband James Sr.of Opdyke and Phyllis Hollingsworth and husband Tom of Opdyke; 31 grandchildren; 70 great-grandchildren; 37 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Harley Martin and wife Wilma of Fairbury; a sister, Alice Taylor of Rochelle; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; an infant son, Bobby; a son-in-law, Robert Brake; two grandchildren, Calvin Clark and Lori Lowery; seven brothers, Gilbert, Ancel, Robert, Dallas, Harold, Donald and Eugene; and two sisters, Eathel Thompson and Wilma Bowers.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Sunday at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro. The Rev. Robert Sefried will officiate. Burial will be at Hopewell Cemetery near McLeansboro. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro. For more information, you may contact Gholson Funeral Home at 643-2321.
