Hall Cherry

Hall Cherry, 82, of Mt. Vernon, died at 9:10 a.m. Tuesday, May 17 at Jefferson Care Center in Mt. Vernon.

He was born October 26, 1922, the son of Frank and Hazel (Sargent) Cherry in Mt. Vernon.

He married Anna Fay Duncan on July 9, 1939 at Morganfield, Ky., she survives.

Cherry was a retired welder and farmer and was a member and trustee of First Free Will Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon. He was also a former member of Jefferson County Board and Little Grove School Board. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman and a member of the Jefferson County Coon Club.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, John Cherry and wife Janice of Mt. Vernon; and Wayne Cherry and wife Sally of Mt. Vernon; grandchildren, Jennifer and husband Al Zuniga of Deer Park, Texas; Matt Cherry and wife Kristen of Nashville, Ill.; Bryan Cherry of Peoria; stepgrandchildren Jadie and husband Dave Thompas of Brentwood, Tenn.,; April and husband Travis Hertenstein of Mt. Vernon; and Bryn Ealey of Chicago; four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews; sisters-in-laws, Virginia Cherry, Lois Shoemaker, Nancy and husband Tom Cocagne; brothers-in-laws, Carl Heinzmann, Charles Duncan and wife Lou, Carl Duncan and wife Kay, Norval Mick.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Neil Cherry, a sister Helen Heinzmann, brother-in-law Kenny Shoemaker, sisters-in-laws Norma Jean Mick and Helen Quinn.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 20 at 10 a.m. at Newell Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with Pastor David Shores officiating. Burial will follow at Old Shiloh Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at Newell Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, 246-0100 for further information.
