Of Bluford Died
At Age 66

James William "Bill" Chelf, 66, Bluford, died 9:55 a.m. Oct. 5, 1990, at 
Crossroads Community Hospital.

Mr. Chelf was a retired railroad employee.

He was born March 21, 1924, in Hamilton County, a son of Owen Thomas and 
Neoma (Gossage) Chelf.  Feb. 5, 1974, in Jefferson County, he married 
Patsy Morgan, who survives.

Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Johnston Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with 
the Rev. Rudolph Schlag officiating.  Burial will follow in South Hickory Hill Cemetery 
with graveside military rites to be conducted by American Legion Jefferson Post 141.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Chelf is survived by two sons, Michael Allen Melton and 
Anthony Lee Melton, both of Mt. Vernon; two daughters, Angela Dawn Chelf of Bluford and 
Patricia Wellen of Dahlgren; three brothers; four sisters; three granddaughters; and 
three grandsons.

Mr. Chelf was a veteran of World War II.  He was a member of American Legion Jefferson Post 141.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
