George E. Chastain

GEORGE E. CHASTAIN DIES AT 9:35 A.M.; FUNERAL ON FRIDAY

George E. Chastain, an aged resident of the Hopewell neighborhood, died at 9:35 o'clock this morning at his home on the Tolle Road. His age was 72 years, 7 months and 20 days.

Funeral services will be held at one o'clock Friday afternoon at Hopewell Church, conducted by Rev. A. B. Clodfelder, and burial will follow in the nearby cemetery. The body will remain at the home until the funeral hour.

Mr. Chastain was born and lived in Hopewell neighborhood his entire life.

He was the son of Charles W. Chastain and Mary J. Bates Chastain.

He was a blacksmith for 40 years, retiring from active work because of his advanced years.

On April 15, 1896, he was united in marriage with Dora Stonecipher who survives him.

He had been a member of the Hopewell M. E. Church since 1897.

Surviving, besides his widow, are one daughter, Audra Chastain, at home; a son, Roy Chastain of Mt. Vernon, RFD; and five sisters, Mrs. Troy Rogers, Mrs. Harris Borden, both of Mt. Vernon, Mrs. Perry Kendle of Council Grove, Kansas, and Mrs. Clara Mattox and Mrs. Floyd Smith, both of Centralia.
