Joseph J. Chambliss

J.J. Chambliss, a pioneer resident of Jefferson County, died at his home in Webber township Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at the age of 89 years.

He came here from Tennessee in 1856 and had lived on the farm where he settled until his death.

Those surviving are Etta Stonecipher and Frank of Mt. Vernon; Fred, Salem; Walter, Ray and Harry, St. Joe, Ill.; Oscar of Texico; Mrs. Ray Webb, Bluford; Mildred Pulliam at home.

Funeral services will be held at the residence Thursday at 3 p.m.

Mr. Chambliss had remarkable health during his lifetime. He was never known to have been seriously ill since childhood and was sick only a very short time before his death.

He was an industrious and energetic man.
