Douglas E. Carlton

Douglas E. Carlton, 38, of Mt. Vernon, passed away at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, April 13, 2010, in Jefferson County.

He was born in Jefferson County Tuesday, Oct. 5, 1971, a son of Robert Joseph and Sharon (Keef) Carlton.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Hopewell Cemetery in Jefferson County with the Revs. Merle Fullerton and Bob Keef officiating. Interment will follow. Those planning to attend the service should go directly to the cemetery. There will be no visitation.

Douglas is survived by a daughter, BreAnn E. Carlton of Mt. Vernon; his father and stepmother, Robert Joseph and Karen Carlton of Mt. Vernon; a brother, Brian Carlton and fiancée Lisa Williams of Mt. Vernon; sister, Angie Workman and husband Fred of Summersville, S.C.; stepsister, Deirdra Haley and husband Tim of Olney; and several nieces and nephews.

His mother and his maternal grandparents, Edgar and Edna Keef, preceded him in death.

Douglas was a driver for Beelman Trucking, and he attended Central Christian Church in Mt. Vernon.

Deputies responded to a call of a deceased person in a vehicle in northern Jefferson County at 10:04 a.m. Tuesday. Personnel from JCSO, Litton Ambulance and Jefferson Fire Protection District discovered Douglas Carlton deceased inside his vehicle. Investigations by JCSO and the coroner reveal Carlton succumbed to actions of self-induced methods at the scene.
