Lucy Lucille (Tate) Burns

Lucy Lucille Burns, 90, of Mt. Vernon and formerly of Woodlawn and Dix died 10:13 p.m. July 16, 2005, at Countryside Manor in Mt. Vernon.

Mrs. Burns was born Oct. 31, 1914, in Kell to Joseph "Oscar" and Alvia E. (Williams) Tate.

She married Wayne E. Burns May 30, 1937; they later divorced.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Osborn Funeral Home in Dix. The Rev. Merle Fullerton will officiate. Burial will follow at Zion Grove (County Line) Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Osborn Funeral Home in Dix.

Mrs. Burns is survived by sons Jerry Burns and wife Mary of Centralia and William Burns and wife Alice of Clinton, Ark.; daughters Beverly Johnson and husband Bill of Woodlawn and Helen Blount and husband LaVelle of Spanish Fort, Ala.; 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great- grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Clarence, Roy, Lawrence and Marshall Tate; two sisters, Rose Davis and Alpha Woodward; and a grandson, Roy LaVelle Blount Jr.

Mrs. Burns attended various churches and last attended Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. She enjoyed playing the piano and played for various churches and quartets for many years.

Memorials may be made to Zion Grove Cemetery and will be received at the funeral home at any time. For more information, you may contact Osborn Funeral Home at 266-7231.
