Mildred A. (Braun) Burnette

Mildred A. Burnette, 89, of Mt. Vernon, passed away at 9:22 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2008, at Christian Health Care, Springfield East in Springfield, Mo.

She was born in Mt. Vernon on Saturday, Dec. 21, 1918, a daughter of Edgar L. and Kathryn I. (Lloyd) Braun.

She married Sydney T. Burnette on Dec. 5, 1940, in Mt. Vernon, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 4, 1971.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday in the Chapel at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn with Pastor Josepha Lecke officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.

Mildred is survived by a daughter, Martha Graham of St.Louis; son, David Burnette and wife Kathleen of Rogersville, Mo.; two granddaughters, Amanda Cunningham and husband Kip of Springfield, Mo., and Chelsea Childress and husband Jason of Springfield, Mo.; two great-granddaughters, Brooke Cunningham and September Childress of Springfield, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.

Her husband; her parents; one son, Teddy Burnette; and one brother, Edgar Lloyd Braun preceded her in death.

Mildred was secretary for Teamsters Local 50 for 25 years prior to retiring in December 1979; she was a very active member and officer for several years of the Alpha Iota Chapter in Mt. Vernon of the Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority and was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Mt. Vernon.

For those who wish, memorials may be given to the Faith Lutheran Church and will be accepted at the funeral home or may be mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, PO. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, IL 62864.
