At the age of eight he came with his parents to Illinois, spending the rest of his days near the place where they first settled.

At the age of 19, he was united in marriage to Lucinda Page. To this union three children were born, one son who died in infancy, Lizzie who preceded him in March 1895, and Nancy who still survives him. His wife preceded him in 1875.

In 1877, he was united in marriage to Henrietta Fitzjerrells. Seven children blessed this union, four girls and three boys, two preceded him in infancy and five still survive him. His wife also preceded him in death, December 18, 1924.

He leaves to mourn his departure, six children: Nancy and Lula of Mt. Vernon, IL; Viola of Mill Shoals, IL; Albert of Tuscola, IL; Ernest of Bonnie, IL and Elnora, at home. Beside the children, a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren and a host of friends.

"Uncle Nathan" as he was usually called, was converted when a young man, and some 40 years ago under the preaching of Smith and Niles was sanctified and up to the day of his death talked of the blessed experience if holiness. Being afflicted with blindness for the last five years he bore affliction with patience and prayed for the time to come when he would pass on and be with Christ and loved ones gone before.

"Peace to his memory."
