Lester Bumpus

ADRIAN: Lester Bumpus, age 80, of Adrian, passed away Wednesday, August 18, 2004 at Bixby Medical Center. He was born December 31, 1923, in Bonnie, IL., to Ernest and Mattie (Ezell) Bumpus.

On August 24, 1946, he married Lola Wente in Mt. Vernon, IL., and she survives.

Lester served in the U.S. Army from 1943-1946. He retired in 1985, from Illinois Bell and AT & T and Lucent after 38 years of service in Decatur and Mt. Vernon.

Lester was a former member of the West Side Church of the Nazarene in Decatur, where he served as Music Director for 8 years, currently, he was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Adrian where he was a member of the church choir.

He was also a member of the Bell Telephone Pioneers and the American Legion.

Lester dearly loved his grandchildren, his most recent endeavor was running "Grandpa's Day Care, Lunch Service & Taxi Cab" for the past 19 years. He was an avid golfer and loved music.

In addition to his wife, Lola, he is survived by three children and their spouses, Wynne (Dennis) Marsh of Adrian, Sue (Paul) Summerford of Adrian and Greg (Susan) Bumpus of Adrian; his grandchildren, Megan & Kayla Marsh, Alison & Katie Summerford, Eric Bumpus, Raechel (Ryan) Myers and Rebecca (Caleb) Faires; two brothers, Lloyd (Kathleen) Bumpus of Mt. Vernon, IL and Elmer (Verna) Bumpus of St. Charles, MO; one sister, Norma Lou (Don) Coil of Mt. Vernon, IL; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Paul Bumpus and a sister, Ivadene Hudson.

Funeral services for Lester will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 21,2004, at the First Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Larry Betz officiating. Burial will be in Lenawee Hills Memorial Gardens in Tecumseh with full military rites conducted by the V.F.W. Annis~Fint Post #1584 of Adrian.

Visitation will be held from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. on Friday at the Anderson Funeral Home in Adrian.
