Mary H. (Hester) Buckman

Mary H. Buckman, 82, of Scheller, passed away at 10:00 P.M., Tuesday, September 14, 2004 at the Fairview Nursing Center in Du Quoin.

Mary was an inspector for Obear-Nester Glass Company in East St. Louis, IL. She had also worked at Open Kitchens at Madison, IL. She was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church in Du Bois.

She was born July 6, 1922 at Scheller, IL, the daughter of John Oten and Harriet (Laur) Hester.

She married Walter Edward Pelker in 1939 at St. Charles, MO and he preceded her in death in 1947.

She then married Robert Buckman in 1952 at St. Charles Catholic Church in Du Bois, IL and he preceded her in death in 1985.

She is survived by one son - Walter Pelker and wife Pat of Scheller, IL, three sisters - Flora Prusacki of Edwardsville, IL, Rebecca Nowicki of Ashley, IL, Laurene Roe of St. Peters, MO, three grandchildren - Mary Carolyn Schmidt and husband Brian of Swansea, IL, Walter Pelker Jr. and wife Karen of Scheller, IL and James Michael Pelker and wife Jennifer of Tamaroa, IL, and four great grandchildren - Elizabeth Ann Gray, Breanne Pelker, Kiley Marie Pelker, and Brian James Schmidt.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, one brother John Benjamin Hester and one sister Luthera Anderson.

Mass of Christian Burial was at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, September 18, 2004 at the St. Charles Catholic Church in Du Bois with Msgr. Melvin Vandeloo officiating. Friends called from 5 to 8 P.M., Friday at the Searby Funeral Home in Tamaroa. Rosary was prayed at 7 P.M., Friday at the funeral home. Interment was in the St. Charles Cemetery at Du Bois, IL. Friends may make memorials to the St. Charles Catholic Church Renovation Fund.
