James A. “Jim” Brown

James A. “Jim” Brown, 71, of Waltonville died 10 a.m. Sept. 15, 2002, at Crossroads Community Hospital in Mt. Vernon.

He was first employed at the Centralia Car Shops, then worked at General Radiator in Mt. Vernon as a supervisor. He retired after 19 years as an agent for MFA Insurance, known as Shelter Insurance today, and then retired from Freeman 6 at Waltonville as an examiner after 21 years.

Mr. Brown was born Sept. 2, 1931, in Jefferson County, to Howard and Melva (Neal) Brown.

He married Delores Dees Sept. 2, 1933, in Mt. Vernon; she survives.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Hughey Funeral Home. The Revs. Jeoff Bond and Ted Anderson will officiate. Burial will be at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, James Brett Brown of Waltonville; a daughter, Traci Graham and husband Russell of Bonnie; two grandchildren, Christian James and Maquel Renee, both of Bonnie; a brother, the Rev. Dale Brown and wife Betty of Mt. Vernon; four sisters, Annabelle Boyd of Lincoln, Altmae Childers and husband Jesse, Geraldine Pitts and husband Dalton, and Wilma Buchanan, all of Mt. Vernon; a brother-in-law, George Dwain Dees and wife Jane of Bluford; a sister-in-law, Janet Montgomery and husband Monty of Hueytown, Ala.; several nieces and nephews and many friends.

Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Clyde William Brown; his mother and father-in-law, the Rev. Tracy Dees and wife, Suda Dees.
