Eugene L. Brinkmann

Eugene L. Brinkmann, 80, of Mt. Vernon died 11:20 p.m. Sept. 19, 2004, at his home.

He was employed by International Shoe Co. and Florsheim Shoe Co. and retired after 28 years of service.

Mr. Brinkmann was born March 22, 1924, in Mt. Sterling, Mo., to George and Clara (Langenberg) Brinkman.

He married Genevieve Laird Brinkman July 1, 1972, in Mt. Vernon; she survives.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. The Rev. David Eadie will officiate. Burial will follow at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.

Mr. Brinkman is survived by his wife, Genevieve L. Brinkman of Mt. Vernon; a stepson, David Arthur Laird of Mt. Vernon; stepdaughters Carol Sue Brickey Funk and husband Dallas of Fayetteville, Mo., and Nancy Hall and husband Dale of Wayne City; a stepson-in-law, Frank J. Moore of Mt. Vernon; a brother, Marvin Brinkmann of Jefferson City, Mo.; a brother-in-law, Howard Schneider of Jefferson City, Mo.; and sisters-in-law Louise Hughey of Centralia, Wash., Norma Hughey of Centralia, Wash., and Madlyn Kulp of Onalaska, Wash.; 11 stepgrandchildren; 11 stepgreat-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a stepdaughter, Frances Moore; two sisters, Joyce Schneider and Gladys Schuenemeyer; and a stepson-in-law, John Brickey.

Mr. Brinkman was a 2 1/2 year veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in the South Pacific and with the occupation forces in Japan during World War II. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Elks Lodge 819, AMVETS Post 4, American Legion Post 141 and the Whippoorwill Club. He was a gourmet cook and especially enjoyed the friendship of all the members of the Whippoorwill Club.
