Newton Boykin

Former Resident Newton Boykin, 61, Dies in Accident

Newton Boykin on Mendota, Ill., a former resident of Mt. Vernon, was accidentally killed yesterday. His age was 61 years and 25 days.

The body will be brought to Mt. Vernon Thursday afternoon and will remain at Myers Chapel, where friends may call.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:00 pm at the Opdyke Baptist church, with the Rev. Bird Green officiating, and burial will be in Opdyke cemetery.

Mr. Boykin resided in Mt. Vernon 15 years ago.

He was born March 15, 1890 in Wayne county.

He was married to Anna Jones, who survives.

Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Opal Clemons of Mt. Vernon, Mrs. Eva Logan of Pinckneyville and Mrs. Harold Zinke of Mendota; one son, Glenn Robert, at home; one step-son, Eldre Lee of Mendota; one brother, Delbert Boykin of Belle Rive; one sister, Mrs. Charles Bradford of Mendota and a half-sister, Mrs. Nettie Haines of Keenes.
