Sidney Bowdler, 64 of Mt. Vernon died 8:45 p.m. June 23, 2003, at his home. He worked for General Radiator and later was employed at Ligma and Nuthern.

Mr. Bowdler was born June 24, 1938, in Cumberland, Ky., to John Bowdler and Elma (Riddle) Bowdler.

He married Karen (Pigg) Bowdler Aug.14, 1959, in York County, Va.; she survives.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. The Rev. Chuck Ellis will officiate. Burial will follow at Hopewell Cemetery in rural Jefferson County.

Mr. Bowdler is survived by his mother, Elma Bowdler of Mt. Vernon; his wife, Karen Bowdler of Mt. Vernon; a son, John Bowdler of Atlanta, Ga.; a daughter, Sheila Bowdler of Tampa, Fla.; grandchildren Jeffery Poston of Mt. Vernon and Chelsey Bowdler of Nashville, Tenn.; a brother Rick Bowdler and wife Jeanne of Radom; a sister Betty Winkler and husband Jim of Bluford; three sisters-in-law, Carol Bowdler of Mt. Vernon, Germaine Bowdler of Texico and Kathy Wood and husband Rondell of Mt. Vernon; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Bowdler was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of AMVETS, American Legion Post 141, and the Mt. Vernon Gun and Sportsmen's Club.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Bowdler; and three brothers, Jimmy, Kenneth, and Jerry Bowdler.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Good Samaritan and will be accepted at the funeral home or may be mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, IL 62864.
