Jesse M. “Jess” Boswell

Jesse M. “Jess” Boswell, 88, Sesser, died Dec. 26, 2004, at Severin Intermediate Care Home in Benton.

Mr. Boswell was retired. He had worked as a coal miner with Freeman United Coal Co.

He was born Nov. 13, 1916, in Bald Hill Township in Jefferson County, a son of Alta Zella (Eubanks) and Harvey Sylvester Boswell.

On July 7, 1938, he married Irene (Eubanks) Boswell. They were married 61 years; she died Dec. 3, 1999.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Davis Funeral Chapel in Sesser, located between Sesser and Christopher at Illinois 148 and Park Street Road. Gene Outland will officiate. Burial will be at Maple Hill Cemetery in Sesser.

Friends may call from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Masonic rites will be conducted at 8 p.m.

Survivors include sons Marvin Boswell and daughter-in-law Lulubell of Mulkeytown and Rodger D. Boswell and daughter-in-law Angela of O’Fallon; daughters Jean Warren and son-in-law Curtis of Benton and Connie Brandalise and son-in-law Victor of Sesser; grandchildren Vanessa Clark and Danny of Mulkeytown, Veronica Davison and Mike of Mulkeytown, Marvin Boswell II and Susan of Christopher, Tara Smith of Sarasota, Fla., Breanna and Bailey Boswell of O’Fallon, Sandy Shortland and Bo of Benton, Bryan Warren and Carrie of Charlotte, N.C., Darren Warren and Mandy of O’Fallon, Mo., Kevin Warren of Valier, Anita Evans and Richard of Christopher, Janette Roule and Rudy of Mulkeytown, Vickie Spiller and Tim of Sesser and David Brandalise of Sesser; 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews; and a very special friend, Kay Sammons.

Mr. Boswell was a member of Hazel Dell Free Will Baptist Church. He was an alderman in Ward 2 in Sesser. He was a 60-year member of Masonic Lodge 918 in Sesser and a member of United Mine Workers of America Local 1545.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister.
