Gary C. Border Sr.

Gary C. Border Sr., 68, of Mt. Vernon died 8:54 p.m. Nov. 18, 2004, at Crossroads Community Hospital in Mt. Vernon.

He was born March 3, 1936, in Spring Garden, a son of James and Dollie (Williams) Border.

Mr. Border was a Korean War veteran, serving the Marine Corps. He had worked for Mt. Vernon Lumber Co. He was a member of Casey Avenue Baptist Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1376 and American Legion Post 141 in Mt. Vernon. He had also worked as a Mt. Vernon auxiliary police officer.

Mr. Border is survived by two sons, Gary C. Border Jr. and wife Jaleen of Cisne and Jimmy Border of St. Louis; two daughters, Teresa Border and Cathy Border; two stepsons, John Hutchcraft of Germany and Robert Hutchcraft of Texas; a stepdaughter, Cheryl Hutchcraft of Kentucky; several grandchildren; and three sisters, Jeannette McDonald of Johnstown, Pa., Phyles Cox of Mt. Vernon and Juanita DeYoung of Scottsdale, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Earl and Gerald Border; and a stepson, Dale.

Graveside funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday at Kirk Cemetery in Ina, with the Rev. Dan Lovin officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Mt. Vernon American Legion post. There will be no visitation. Those attending the service are requested to meet at the cemetery.
