Alma Frances Bogan

Alma Frances Bogan passed away 5:50 a.m. Jan. 3, 2005, at St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.

Alma Bogan, beloved by her children, grandchildren and community, brought joy to so many through her selfless efforts.

Alma Bogan was employed by Dahlgren Community Schools for seven years. She worked there alongside Emmy Zachman. In 1961, she began work at the Lincoln State School and Colony in Lincoln, known as the Lincoln Developmental Center. She retired back to Dahlgren in 1983.

She was born Sept. 14, 1915, in Hamilton County.

She married Joseph Carl Bogan, who preceded her in death.

She was a member of Dahlgren United Methodist Church. Her parents were James H. and Permelia E. (Kinison) Bolen.

She is survived by two daughters, Kay A. Brown of Mt. Vernon and Cynthia (husband David) Wicks of Dahlgren; 10 grandchildren, Denise (Richard) Clark of Pokola, Okla., Camela Sue "Susie" Matthews of Fort Smith, Ariz., Jason Confer of Jefferson County, Paul R. (Jody) Matthews Jr. of McKenzie, Tenn., Cindy (Mark) Wright of Wildwood, Mo., Steven C. (Susan) Rumburg of Hereford, Ariz., Jill F. (Chris) Estwing of Marion, David F. Wicks Jr. of Dahlgren, Melissa A. (Eric) Ragan of McLeansboro and Penny G. (Warren) Wicks-Skelton of Henderson, Ky.; 13 great-grandchildren, Jodie Clark, Kayla and Cody Confer, Meagan Wright, Austin Rumburg, Jonathan and Adam Estwing, Blaire, Kyle, Kaila and Tyler James David Ragan and Lexi and L. Reed Skelton; and a great-great-grandchild, Justin Clark.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Dahlgren United Methodist Church. The Rev. Gary Whipple will officiate. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, also at the church.

Gholson Funeral Home in Dahlgren is in charge of arrangements, where you may call 736-2431 for further information.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a son, Paul Matthews Sr.; two sisters, Daisy Fagan and Wilma R. Bolen; a brother, James "Jimmy" Bolen; and several infant brothers and sisters.
