Edward (Edd) Black

Edward (Edd) Black, 73, of 416 North 7th Street, was dead on arrival at Good Samaritan Hospital yesterday. Death was due to an apparent heart attack.

(Handwritten Wed. 1-26-72).

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Myers Chapel. Burial will be in the Maple Hill cemetery at Sesser. The body will lie in state at Myers Chapel where friends may call after 5:00 p.m. Thursday.

Mr. Black worked with the state highway department and was formerly employed at the State Game Farm and was a former maintenance man at the Armory.

Mr. Black was born Aug. 29, 1898 in Jefferson County, the son of Sherman and Almire (Roberts) Black.

He was married to the former Alice Benthall, who preceded him in death on June 2, 1955.

He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Evalena Gilbert of Mt. Vernon and Mrs. Rose Marie Varner of Hatfield, Ark.; one brother, Ernest Black of Mt. Vernon; one sister, Ona Pitchford of Christopher; and two grandsons.
