Ralph W. Bierman

Ralph W. Bierman, 86, of Woodlawn died 1:20 p.m. July 18, 2005, at Casey Care Center in Mt. Vernon.

He was a pork producer and farmer. He retired in 1982.

Mr. Bierman was born Sept. 1, 1918, in Clinton County to William and Ella (Reath) Bierman.

He married Frieda (Harvey) Bierman Sept. 26, 1941, in Clayton, Mo.; she survives.

Graveside services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at Mt. Catherine Cemetery in rural Jefferson County. The Rev. Melvin Larson will officiate. There will be a military flag presentation by American Legion Post 141.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.

Mr. Bierman is survived by his wife, Frieda Bierman of Woodlawn; a daughter, Lou Campbell and husband Alvin of Woodlawn; a grandson, J.B. Crawford of Seattle, Wash.; a brother, Clyde Bierman of Centralia; two sisters, Mary Beckmeyer of Centralia and Florence Roberts of Walnut Hill; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Bernice Mifflin and Bertha McCarry.

Mr. Bierman was a veteran who fought in the Battle of the Bulge with the U.S. Army in World War II and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Waltonville and Calumet Christian Church in Centralia.

For those who wish, memorial contributions may be given to the charity of the donors choice and will be accepted at the funeral home or may be mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, IL 62864.
