John Beckham

John Newman Beckham, 81, Waltonville, died at 2:30 a.m. today in St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia.

He was born in Waltonville April 1, 1903, the son of John and Druzie (McLaughlin) Beckham.

He was married to Nellie Pearl Grigsby, who preceded him in death July 4, 1951.

He was later married on Oct. 10, 1956, to Nora Moore, who survives.

He was a retired farmer and a member of the Church of Christ in Sesser.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Fry and Frick Funeral Chapel in Waltonville with the Rev. Jim Martin officiating. Burial will follow in the Abner Cemetery in Nason.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. Saturday at the funeral chapel.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Beckham is also survived by six sons, Burl Beckham of Paris, M., Clyde Beckham of Lewisport, Ky., Kenneth Beckham of Moro, Keith Beckham of Bonnie, Charles Beckham of Waltonville and Arthur Beckham of Mt. Vernon; three daughters, Mrs. Margaret Fairchild of Waltonville, Mrs. Shirley Hartley of Waukegan and Mrs. Ruth Ann Buford of Memphis, Tenn.; one stepson, John Moore of Boyd; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Mildred Reynolds of Rockford, one stepsister, Mildred Cantrell of Benton; one half sister, Jenny Lorn Linden of Chicago; 20 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death, by his parents, his first wife, one stepson and two half brothers.
