Hershel D. Barringer, 76, of Mt. Vernon, IL died at 8:45 a.m. December 29,2000, at Jeffersonian Care Center in Mt. Vernon.

He worked at Consolidated Coal for 15 years and for General Radiator for 18 years.

Mr. Barringer was born December 8, 1924 in Goreville, IL to Issa and Bertha (Tripp) Barringer.

He married Lillie (Kelton) Barringer she survives.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Johnston Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. The Rev. Raymond Capps will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens. Friends may call after 5 p.m. tonight at the Johnston Funeral Home.

In addition to his wife he is survived by three daughters, Deana Hale and husband Dennis of Mt. Vernon, Nancy Ortega and husband Mike of Varna, Wendy Whittington of Mt. Vernon; a son Larry Barringer of Mt. Vernon; four grandchildren, Becky Tyler and husband Jeff of Smyrna, TN, Brian Barringer of Henry, Jerry Hale of Mt. Vernon, and Daryl Price of Mt. Vernon; two great grandchildren; Joshua and Jacob Barringer of Henry.

Mr. Barringer was a member of the Mt. Vernon American Legion Post 141 and the Mt. Vernon V.F.W. post 1376.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and two sisters.
