Susie Bailey and Adalina Owen

4 GENERATIONSOF ODIN FAMILY IN CAR SMASHUP
MRS. SUSIE BAILEY AND MOTHER DIE IN HIGHWAY DISASTER

One woman was instantly killed and another fatally injured eight miles east of here on Route 161 yesterday when an auto carrying four generations of an Odin family plunged out of control and turned over. Two others were injured.

Mrs. Susie BAILEY, 48, driver of the car was killed instantly. Mrs.Mary Adalina OWEN (sic), 82, her Mother, died this morning at a local hospital from injuries sustained in the wreck. Mrs. Mary HANEY, 25, daughter Of the vehicle driver, and her child, Loretta Sue,5, were brought to St. Mary's hospital for treatment. The child was released last night. Mrs. Haney's injuries were still not determined today.

MRS. HANEY SAID the accident occurred about 1:40 p.m. yesterday as the women were returning from a Sunday afternoon visit to a nearby cemetery. She said no other automobiles were involved. The car suddenly plunged off the road and turned over. It was an old model with a fabric top, she said.

Joint funeral services were planned for the two women. The services will be held at the Garnier and Sons funeral home here, 2p.m., Wednesday. The Rev. JENKINS of Odin will officiate.

Mrs. OWENS was born in Jefferson county, the daughter of Nelson and Martha Bundy (sic) [GARREN is the REAL last name BUNDY is Adaline's mother's MAIDEN name].

She married the late Henry OWENS at Mt.Vernon [IL] in 1885. He died 22 years ago.

She lived her entire life in and Near Odin. Surviving relatives include two sons, Willie, of Centralia And John of Salem; a daughter, Dollie DAUGHTERY (sic) of Decatur; Three brothers, Willie of Clinton, Jasper of Aurora(??)and Silas of California; and one sister, Mrs. Lillie WOFE of Murphysboro.She had 25 grandchildren and 40 great grandchildren.

THE TRIP TO THE DIX cemetery Sunday was made to place flowers on Henry OWENS' grave. Her daughter, Mrs. BAILEY was The wife of Calvin BAILEY. She was born in Jefferson County and was married to BAILEY at Mt. Vernon in 1915. Surviving relatives include two sons, Lester of Centralia and Johnny of Odin; four daughters, Mrs. Gladys PERRY of Harvey, Mrs. Cora CAMPBELL of Centralia, and Mrs. HANEY and Mrs. Louise DONOHO, Both of Odin. Coroner Robert HANCOCK announced he would hold an inquest At 4 p.m. today at the Garnier and Sons funeral home.
