Mrs. Georgia E. Alexander, 56, drowned at 10 am. yesterday in a well at her home on RFD 5, about eight miles northeast of Mt. Vernon on the Tolle road.

Coroner Ben Roeder, who conducted an inquest this morning, said it was the opinion of Willard Alexander, her husband, and several neighbors that Mrs. Alexander accidently fell into the well. The well, he said, was unprotected by side walls, having only a wooden platform. Mr.. Alexander testified that he was listening to a radio program Sunday morning and that, after the program was over, he missed his wife. He told how he searched for her and finally found her in the well, which contained over eight feet of water. He summoned a neighbor, Dale Mattix, and they got Mrs. Alexander out of the well by using a ladder and rope. Neighbors aided in giving artificil resperation and a doctor and Mt. Vernon firemen wer summoned. The physician pronounced her dead and told firemen it was useless to use the pulmotor. Coroner Roeder returned a verdict that she came to her death from "drowning in a well."

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:00 pm. at Union Chapel church, with the Rev. Roy Beal officiating, and burial will be in Union Chapel cemetary.

Mrs. Alexander was born October 15, 1890, the daughter of Thomas and Cora (McFarland) Mann.

In 1917 she was married to Willard Alexander, who survives.

Besides her husband, she is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Dale Mattix of Mt. Vernon, Mrs. Roy Noos of Peoria and Mrs. Paul Brown of Wood River; and one grandson.

A son Wilton, lost his life in World War II.
