Marian Gosgnack Abell

Marian Gosgnack Abell, 73, of Mount Vernon and formerly of Eldorado, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004, at Rockford Memorial Hospital in Rockford.

She was born Dec. 7, 1930, in Wasson to August and Leontine Gosgnack. Both of her parents and her sister Augusta have preceded her in death.

She was married to Charles E. Abell of Ridgway for 20 years. He preceded her in death on April 23, 1996. Marian raised six children in Eldorado.

She was employed at Harrisburg Manufacturing, Wilson Cabinet and BH&O Chevrolet in Harrisburg from 1970 to 1983. She moved to Mount Vernon in 1984 and was employed with Svanda Motors through 2003. Marian's life was unexpectedly shortened by cancer, yet she remained focused on her family and friends as she bravely faced her illness. She was fondly referred to as mom by many people, including her family, coworkers and others who knew her, due to her caring nature and supportive mentoring. She continued to display these loving qualities throughout all of her health challenges.

She is survived by her son, Charles Abell and his wife Caron of Discovery Bay, Calif.; her daughter, Tina Kaatz and her husband Gary of Rockford; her daughter, Natalie Frail and her husband Don of St. Louis; her daughter, Christine Clausen of Chicago; her daughter, Teresa West and Stewart of Winnetka; her daughter, Jane Johnson and her husband Jason of Mount Vernon; eight grandchildren, Catherine, Jeanette, Lauren, Rachael, Charlie, Jackson, Christopher and Cody; and two grandchildren through marriage, Jessica and Lindsay Kaatz.

Visitation will be held at Hughey Funeral Home at 1314 Main St., Mount Vernon, 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004, at Hughey Funeral Home.

Burial services will be at the Sunset Lawn Cemetery at 3:30 p.m.
