Laird Cemetery

Pendleton Twp.

The cemetery is located to the right side of the church.

Additional Information About Land and Church (deeds, etc) provided by Sandy (Whalen) Bauer

My paternal grandmother's sister, Nell (Butler) Rose Schmidt, is standing in front of the church.

Note from Sandy:

I found amongst the records I inherited from both my dad's side of the family and my mom's side of the family some remarkable information about Laird Church and Laird Cemetery land. I have both paternal and maternal ancestors buried at Laird.

John S. Laird (1823-1973) and Catherine (Campbell) Laird (1822-c 1892) are my maternal 3rd great grandparents. I tell you this so you will understand why I have the deed information for the Laird Church and Laird Cemetery land. Also mentioned in one of the deeds is the name F. W. Butler, my paternal 2nd great grandfather. All buried at Laird Cemetery.

Margaret (Laird) Shrum, wife of Jacob Shrum, is the daughter of John S. Laird and Catherine (Campbell) Laird.

Now for the records I have, which I am including in PDF format that has been transcribed from the original documents and one scanned image of a deed.

  1. Oct 23, 1880 - Warranty Deed for Laird Cemetery - (Jacob and Margaret (Laird) Shrum)

  2. Jul 23, 1881 - Laird Cemetery deed (image)

  3. Mar 24, 1892 - Warranty Deed for building the Laird Church - (Catherine (Campbell) Laird)

  4. Jul 17, 1950 - Laird Church Quit Claim Deed - (Trustees from Bluford Missionary Baptist Church to Trustees of Laird Missionary Baptist Church)
