Augustus was the third son of STEPHEN THATCHER STRATTON and NANCY JANE LAUDER. He was born in 1845 and died in 1883. He married ANNA MARY WAGNER,(date and place unknown). She was born June 23, 1845 and died October 31,1890 at the age of 45.

Augustus enlisted in the Civil War along with his father and brother Davidon August 5, 1862.

He was a dry good merchant in the Family Business. He served as Alderman for the city of Mt. Vernon, IL. In 1882 and 1883. He belonged to the K of H Lodge# 683 organized on September 5, 1878. Other charter members were RYND LAUDER STRATTON and DR. SAMUEL CREW.

Augustus and Anna had issue of five children. Four girls and one boy.

1. Roslin M. Stratton born in 1871,
2. Mary P. Stratton born 1872,
3. Homer S. Stratton 1875,
4. Nancy G. Stratton born 1878 and
5. Margaret E. Stratton 1885.

He and Anna are both Buried in Oakwood Cemetery, Mt. Vernon IL.
