Dr. Carl Wilhelm Vincenz


Born Carl Wilhelm Vincenz, Dr. Vincenz was the third child of John and Anna Gerock Vincenz. He was educated at Heidelberg University and Ludwig Maximilian University. He left Berne, Switzerland on July 6, 1836 and France on July 14, 1836. He came first to New Orleans and then went on to Natchez, MS. He got his naturalization papers at Adams Co MS on June 10, 1843 and a license to practice medicine February 24, 1844.

He moved to Centerville (now Millstadt) IL about 1845. On June 3, 1845 Dr. Vincenz visited the Joshua Lacey Family at Millstadt. Here he met their daughter, Anne. He visited their farm again on August 28 and on September 15 he proposed marriage to Anne. They were engaged on September 16 and married on October 2. Later the couple moved to Jefferson Co IL where he practiced medicine, farmed and raised his family.

Tombstone at Mt. Zion Cem near Ashley, IL reads:

I WILL NOT FORGET THEE PAST AND THE FUTURE
THEY BLENDED TOGETHER BY LOVES DEAREST TIES
NOT A LINK IN THE CHAIN BUT I'LL CHIRISH IN MEMORY
TILL MY SPIRIT FREED MEETS THEE WHEN THE BODY DIES.
