William Henry Brookman was a veteran of the Civil War and in later years would relate so vividly the fear and torture he experienced when lying for the entire night on the battle field. He received a pension, enough to keep his family without body labors on his part. He did the family buying and grocery shopping.

William Henry was married three times. The first wife was Harriet Donoho, the daughter of Billie Donoho and his wife, Betty Hatchett. To this union was born one son,

1. Sam Brookman.

After the death of Harriet he married Elizabeth Dale Simmons, the widow of Marcus A. Simmons. Two daughters were born:

1. Rose and
2. Eldora, who married a Myers.

After the death of Elizabeth he married Rebecca Meador. Children are as listed:

1. Adelia, who married Berry Brewer;
2. Arthur, who married Elza Cantrell;
3. Charles Delbert, who married Nona Howard;
4. Silas E., who married Effie Hawkins;
5. William, and
6. Grace.
