Archie Charles Brookman

Archie Charles Brookman was born Robert Charles Marshall, August 21, 1921, at Monie, Illinois, to Mae Marshall. At the age of eight, he was adopted by Charles and Nona Brookman.

Archie attended elementary school and later received his high school diploma from Mt. Vernon High School through an extension course. He married Eleanor Rose Schultz on July 6, 1941. Archie was a farmer, then in 1944 joined the U.S. Navy and was stationed in the South Pacific, in the Philippines, Guam, New Hebrides, and Samoa.

He was a television technician and has worked for the Mammoth Department Store in that capacity for a number of years, has driven a school bus, has been self employed with a repair business, and is presently working at American Chain and Cable Company, Division of Vac-U-Lift, making equipment for the Alaskan Pipe Line.

Eleanor Rose Schultz was born in Webber Township, Jefferson County, on September 19, 1922, to Steve and Josephine Schultz. She attended school at George College Elementary School, which was destroyed by a tornado in 1957. In the community, Eleanor has served as past president of the P.T.A. of Field Community Consolidated School, the Jefferson County Cancer Crusade, a 4-H leader for several years for the Texico Topnotchers, and various community activities. She has also been an active church worker.

Barbara Lou Brookman was born in Field Township, Jefferson County, to Archie and Eleanor Brookman. Barbara attended Field Community Consolidated School. She has also attended Mt. Vernon High School, Lincoln Christian College, Mt. Vernon Community College, Southern Illinois University, California State University at Fullerton, and West Coast University. Her earned degrees are A.A., BSEd, and work towards a Master's degree.

On November 26, 1966, Barbara married Larry Zane Soger, youngest son of Audrey and Jessie Soger of Texico. Larry grew up in Texico and attended University of Illinois, where he received a degree in electronic engineering. Shortly after the wedding, the couple were sent on assignment to Puerto Rico to work with a sophisticated tactical weapons system developed by Hughes for the Navy. They were later transferred to Fullerton, California. She presently works for Fluor Corporation at the corporate headquarters in Irvine, California. Larry died November 1, 1976 at Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri, and Barbara returned to California.

Sharon Lynne Brookman was born, in Farrington Township, Jefferson County, to Archie and Eleanor Brookman. Sharon attended the Field Community Consolidated School. She also attended Mt. Vernon High School, Mt. Vernon Community College, Southern Illinois University, Eastern Illinois University, and the University of Illinois. Her earned degrees are AA, B.S. in Ed., M.S. in Biology, and M.S. in Microbiology.Following graduation, Sharon taught microbiology, genetics, and biology at Vincennes University at Vincennes, Indiana. On May 22, 1976, Sharon married Ronald Albert Kerst. only son of James and Jean Kerst of Springfield. Ron received his B.S. degree from Western Illinois University and is now working on his Ph.D. in plasma physics. Following their marriage, they made their home at Urbana, Illinois.
