Robert Breeze

Robert Breeze was born in Orange county, North Carolin in 1778 and died December 8,1862, at the age of 84. He fought in the Indian War at the Battle of Tippecanoe under Genera Harrison.

In 1810 in Clark County, Indiana, he married Margaret Copple. She was born in 1791 in Rowan county, North Carolina and died in 1875 at the age of 84. While still in Indiana, Robert and Margaret joined the Christian Church. In 1827, the family moved to Jefferson county. In their home was probably organized the first Christian Church in the county by Rev. David R. Chance and Rev. William Chaffen of Marion county. Later the Breezes deeded the land to the church where Little Grove Church now stands.

Fourteen children were born to Robert and Margaret Breeze:

  1. Richard,
  2. Jacob,
  3. Elizabeth (married Crittenden Anderson),
  4. John,
  5. Owen (married Margaret Faulkner and was Sergeant in Company F, 49th Illinois Volunteer Infantry),
  6. Hannah (married Rev. John A. Williams),
  7. Robert,
  8. Henry,
  9. James,
  10. Jonathan,
  11. Margaret (married Alex Bundy),
  12. Catherine (married George Fouts),
  13. Mary (married Jacob Sanders), and
  14. Nan (married Samuel Bundy).

Owen and Margaret Faulkner Breeze had five children, including

  1. Jane who married John Sanders,
  2. Sidney who was born in 1841, and
  3. Harriett who in 1865 married Joseph A. Boles. His father was Hugh Boles whose ancestors came from Scotland to settle in Scott county, Indiana, and on to Bureau county and Washington county, Illinois. Hugh Boles lived near Richview, Illinois where he died in 1854.

The Joseph Boles settled on a farm in Jefferson county that continues to be called "Boles Farm." Joseph was a Republican, member of Walnut Hill IOOF Lodge #710. Both were members of the Christian Church at Little Grove.

Three of their children died of scarlet fever in early childhood. Six other children were: Alice who married Charles L. Boggs. Children: Bert, Emmit, Carl, Pearl, Flossie. Owen who married Clara Orrill. Children: Sidney, Harriet, Joe, Mabel. Otto who died in 1923. Emmitt who married Mabel Jennings. Children: Reba and Wanda. Maude who married Everett Turner. Children: Laurel who married Hester Alvis. Children: Jackie, married Sonny Nelms (son Louis Richard); Connie, married David Diedrich (daughter Avery Ann); Marlene, married Robert Worley (son Thomas), later married Thomas Pruett (son Clay); Wanetta m. Howard Mose; Joe m. Vensa Holloway and had Joan, Fred, and Wm.; Clair married Vera Knollman and had Carol, Patricia, and David; Helen married Walter Hobbs and had Richard; Helen later married Burnham Garritson and had Gary.

Mable who married Wilson Miller. Children: Harold J. (married Mary Mason); Leslie (married Vera Leach); and Martha Belle (married Wayne R. Nelson, having children Leslie Wayne and Alana Kay).
