Charles A. Baker

BAKER, Charles A., operator, Belle Rive, was born August 19, 1853, in Bennington, Ill., son of William H. BAKER, a native of Boston, Mass., where he was a merchant.

He came West about 1852, and engaged in the mercantile business till his death, which occurred in 1858.

The mother of our subject was Emily MOORE BAKER, a native of Ohio. She is yet living, and the wife of John ROBINSON. She is the mother of five children, viz., Charles A. (our subject), Mary HARVEY, Effie SEELY, Louella ROBINSON and Lunetta (deceased).

Our subject was educated at Olney, Ill., where he also clerked in a grocery store for three years.

In 1872, he went to Madisonville, Ohio, where he learned telegraphy, and secured a position on the Louisville & Nashville Railroad, working at Dahlgren, New Memphis and Belle Rive, where he is now following his occupation, also acting in the capacity of station agent, filling the office with tact and ability.

He is an active member of the Masonic fraternity, Belle Rive Lodge, No 696; also good Templars.

In politics, he is identified with the Republican party. In the spring of 1883, the people honored him by electing him a member of the Board of Trustees of Belle Rive.
