Mt. Vernon, IL Register News - Thursday, March 18, 1943 SOLDIERS MARCH TO PICTURE SHOW More than 600 members of the 739th Military Police Battalion marched from Camp Mt. Vernon this morning to the Granada Theatre where they were guests of Manager Homer MARVEL at a special showing of the picture "Immortal Sergeant". Camp officers had inquired on the possibility of arranging a show for the soldiers which is highly regarded by the military as a training film. The movie demonstrates the value of cover in actual warfare on the sands of North Africa, officers stated. CAMP MT. VERNON GIVES $160 TO RED CROSS DRIVE The total amount that has been turned in to the treasurer of the Red Cross War Fund is about $4,500 which leaves a balance of about $10,000 to be secured. Many workers are waiting to make the deposits until they get all collections completed. The Parent-Teachers Association of the different schools have done remarkably well compared to former years, officials stated, as they have turned in nearly $600 as solication at residences onloy and the work is not finished. Some of the workers who were to cover Mt. Vernon downtown section have not done their soliciting yet and were reminded it is important that everything be done soon. Damage Caused by Halloween Pranks Here Mt Vernon police today warned the city's youngsters against premature Halloween pranks. An outbreak of such pranks during the last few days has resulted in numerous complaints to the police dept. and in many cases they were reports of property damage. For example,this week,the windows of a store building on south 10th was broken by a thrown rock and last night a rock shattered a window of a home on south 18th street.
